  • 1809 The first Bramley tree grew from pips planted by a young girl, Mary Ann Brailsford, in her garden in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, England. The original tree is still there
  • British shoppers cooked approximately 94 million Bramleys in 2009, around another 94 million were used by food companies to make apple pies, sauces and all the other dishes that have Bramleys in their recipes
  • Bramleys are the only British apples available 12 months of the year – they store so well because of their low sugar content
