Newmafruit Farms Ltd walked away with the ultimate prize – The Covent Garden Prize for the Best Exhibit of Apples or Pears in the Show.
The Cameo entered in Class 10 was awarded 99.25 points out of a possible 100. The near perfect apple was then up against RD Applegrowers Rubens entry which also gained 99.25 points. The National Fruit Show ‘Rule 16′ then came in to play. The rule states that both scorecards are examined and the winner is determined by eliminating the first exhibit that loses a point, which in this case was the Rubens.
Newmafruit Ltd will be able to display a large amount of silver over the coming months having also won the Roderick Sarson Memorial Tropy, Stoke Bomford Rose Bowl and The Fruiterers Medal for Best Exhibit of Dessert Apples.
